Did you jump on the bread-baking bandwagon during lockdown? Or are you yet to get your bake on and need some encouragement? This simple six-step, four-ingredient vegan bread recipe is perfect for beginners, while seasoned bakers will enjoy zooming through it.
This step-by-step guide will take you through how to make perfect vegan bread. Be sure to plan ahead and allow enough time for resting the dough. After baking, you'll be left with a soft, chewy and airy cream-coloured loaf. Enjoy as a base or side for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Ingredient
3.5 cups all purpose flour (spare extra for later)
1.5 cups warm water
2 tsp instant dry yeast
1 tsp salt
Method
Add flour, yeast and salt to a large mixing bowl. Add in the water and stir well until mixed through.
Cover the bowl loosely with a kitchen towel and let the mixture rest for 2-3 hours at room temperature.
Once rested, check the dough. The surface should be dotted with bubbles. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and sprinkle with a little flour. Do not knead the dough. Instead, shape it into a round loaf by folding it over onto itself a few times.
Place into a baking dish and allow the dough to rest for a further 45 mins.
Preheat oven 220c while resting the dough.
Cook for 30 mins or until golden brown. Transfer bread to a cooling rack. Allow to cool down before slicing.
