Thanks Covid. Another lockdown! But don't despair, we won't go hungry. There are a bunch of great vegan and plant-based takeaway options to keep you fuelled up at home.
Here we are again Sydney. Another lockdown, which has seen many restaurants and cafes temporarily close their doors, including our own Bodhi Restaurant Bar. While we aren’t in a position to operate for takeaway, there are a few venues in town who are offering some delicious vegan and plant-based dining options for you to enjoy at home.
In support of the vegan restaurant community, and the broader hospitality industry, we want to share some of our favourite takeaway and delivery options across Sydney for you to enjoy. At your request, we’ve also expanded the list to include both vegetarian and vegan options.
So what do you feel like today?
Shift Eatery
Sydney’s first vegan deli, Shift Eatery in Surry hills is open 10am-2pm daily for takeaway, dishing up delightful eats like vegan bacon and egg bagels, delicious toasties and salads, plus Marvell Street coffee. They’ve also been doing grilled Beyond sausage sizzles on the weekend!
Alibi
Get your plant-based fix at Alibi at Ovolo Woolloomooloo, which is offering takeaway 7 days a week from 12pm. Order online directly or with Deliveroo, Uber Eats and Door Dash. Enjoy eats such as kimchi dumplings with ginger foam and red cabbage puree, beetroot gin-cured daikon, and black forest cheesecake with kirsch cream and cherry compote.
Lonely Mouth
Also in Newtown, Sydney's only dedicated 100% plant based Ramen Bar, Lonely Mouth is cranking out a great pick-up menu. Enjoy delicious izakaya-style cauliflower karaage, tantanmen ramen with a nutty broth topped with house-made plant based mince, or sunflower and hempseed shoyu ramen. There’s also a selection of sake and wine.
Gigi Pizzeria
Craving pizza? Gigi in Newtown is open for takeaway, with pick up from the venue or delivery via Uber Eats from 4pm til close every day. Take a look at their menu of delicious wood-fired creations from the Regina with tree nut ricotta, tomatoes and basil, and the Cavolo with cauliflower puree, cauliflower artichokes, pinenuts, capers and currents, to a range of calzones, salads and desserts.
Nutie
For the sweetest of treats, both Balmain and Surry Hills stores are open and offering takeaway of a range of incredibly moreish snacks and packs that Nutie is famous for. They are also doing delivery to some suburbs on certain days, so worth checking out their list of delicious gluten free, dairy free and vegan cakes, donuts, biscuits, tarts and takeaway meals.
Kindness Vegan Kitchen
Formerly known as Kindness Cafe,Darlinghurst’s Kindness Vegan Kitchen is offering freshly cooked plant-based Thai and Brainwave Vegan meals for delivery around Sydney. You can order between 3 and 10 vegan meals, choosing between Kindness favourites like drunk noodles, pineapple fried rice and a range of curries, as well as Brainwave vegan staples like Japanese katsu don and mapo tofu with rice.
Green Gourmet
Long-standing Green Gourmet is delivering during lockdown, with a range of freshly-cooked and frozen dishes available Monday to Friday 6pm-8pm. Their range includes takeaway yum cha, chilled bento boxes, frozen ready-made dishes, vegan cakes and groceries. They’re also offering pick-up of hot foot from their St Leonards store.
Eden Bondi
Warm up in lockdown with Eden Bondi’s takeaway menu of delicious plant-based dishes available either pick-up or contactless local home delivery from 5L30pm Wednesday to Sunday. Savour salt n pepper "Kalamari", shroom ragu fettuccine, Tokyo sliders, chocolate ganache cake and a range of housemade cocktails and kombucha.

Bad Hombres
Takeaway is back at this Mexican favourite in Surry Hills. Order a range of Bad Hombres plant-based dishes and natural wines as takeaway, Tuesday to Sunday for lunch or dinner. Get staples like guacamole, tacos and nachos, plus Mexican-style stirfry mushrooms and a traditional-style Mexican rice pudding. You can pick-up directly or order delivery via Uber Eats.
Yulli’s
An extensive menu of Yulli’s favourites are available as takeaway with pick up and delivery options available. Enjoy treats from this go-to Surry Hills haunt such as Vietnamese pancakes, edamame and coconut moneybags, crispy wasabi cauliflower, and sticky date pudding with coconut ice-cream.
Peppe’s
An Eastern Suburbs favourite, Peppe’s in Bondi is offering their plant-based Italian fare as takeaway. Take home their delicious pastas like gnocchi cashew e peppe or their famed lasagna made with plant-based bechamel, plus a range of antipasti and dolce to keep you going. >>
Mother Chu’s Vegetarian Kitchen
Pop by Mother Chu’s for a delicious takeaway feed, choosing from a menu of traditional eats, cooked up by the charming Taiwanese Chu family. Order signature dishes like the Chili Noodle Claypot, Mother Chu’s Special Curry, Golden Fingers, and black sticky rice for dessert.
