Free Gifts for Dad this Father's Day | Exclusive Interview with Rich Roll | ZoneOut Festival Giveaway

Rolling in to Father's Day

To celebrate Father's Day, we spoke with Rich Roll, an inspiring father of four and vegan ultra athlete about parenthood, his journey and his lifestyle. Rich has been named the fittest man in the world, something he attributes to his vegan lifestyle.

Rich and his vegan chef wife, Julie Piatt, have raised their children with plant-powered philosophises. “People often get so concerned if a child is vegan, yet the rates of childhood obesity and diabetes are through the roof. If a kid is eating chips or McDonalds nobody says a thing” says Roll. There’s no sign of a "preachy vegan" here – Rich is all about inclusiveness and leading by example with his vegan lifestyle, something we love at Bodhi.

Warming Winter Dessert

With the winter months calling for dishes that are indulgent, warm and comforting, our kitchen team has created a delicious and decadent winter dessert of lemon myrtle and chai poached pear.

A whole pear is poached in chai and served with warm matcha cake, tart yuzu gel, rich vegan cream cheese and edible gold flakes. To make this dish extra special, our chai is supplied by The Chai Room, which hand makes all its blends here in Sydney.

Bodhi Loves: ZoneOut

Mindfulness meets music at the inaugural ZoneOut Festival, where music and lifestyle are bought together. The festival showcases neo-classical musical artists, engaging panel discussions, mindful yoga flows and thought-provoking film screenings.

We are giving away two full day passes for the whole festival, including all shows, screenings and speakers valued at $436.

To enter, dine with us before September 25 and put your receipt, with your name and contact details, in to our entry jar. The winners will be announced on September 26 at 12pm, and contacted via email.

Ask Heaven Leigh

Each month Heaven Leigh, the owner of Bodhi, answers questions about what inspires her and the philosophy behind her business.

@plantsforsoul asked: "Are you a vegan yourself and what made you want to open up an all vegan restaurant? "

"I personally have eaten vegan, vegetarian, raw and omnivore during my life and am currently vegetarian. I can not call myself a true vegan because I still eat honey direct from the hive (flo-hive so as not to kill any bees when we are harvesting the honey) and I still own certain things that exclude me from using that title.

I do believe the times are changing and as veganism becomes more mainstream and there is more demand for high quality cruelty-free products, consumers will have more choices when it comes to leading a vegan lifestyle.

We are so lucky that in Australia we have access to an abundance of amazing fresh produce, and that we have the choice to live consciously and ethically. I love sharing what we do and showing people that eating plant-based isn’t as restrictive as people think it is. There’s something about running a successful business that “harms no living creatures”, that makes me feel good about the choices we made as a business."

We will share more questions and Heaven's responses in the next newsletter, feel free to send any other questions you have via our Instagram.
